Originally from El Paso, Texas, Stephen Maus is a voice teacher, vocal coach, accompanist, and performer. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in voice from Texas Tech University, and a Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. As a performer of both opera and musical theater, he has been seen with Texas Tech Musical Theater, Texas Tech University Choir, Bowling Green Opera Theater, Toledo Masterworks Chorale, and Canticum Novum. He is regularly seen performing with Austin Opera (stay tuned for updates about performances this season!), and has been featured as a Young Artist with Ash Lawn Opera (now Charlottesville Opera), Opera NEO, and Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, and as a Visiting Guest Artist with Youth Opera of El Paso. As a music director/accompanist, Mr. Maus has worked with a number of high school musical productions, including Once Upon a Mattress, Guys and Dolls, The Boyfriend, and Seussical! the Musical. As a teacher Mr. Maus maintains a studio of about sixty students each year. In competition, his students have been selected as members of TMEA All-Region and All-State choirs and received numerous 1st Division ratings at Solo & Ensemble. In addition, students have been seen locally performing with Zach Scott Theater’s Pre-Professional Company, and former students have been accepted to collegiate music and performance programs at Oklahoma City University and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
